EyefinitySM and WebMD to Expand Electronic Submission of Eye Care Claims
Agreement Strengthens Eyefinity Position as Optical Industry Leader in Internet-Based Business Services; Increases Number of Transactions Processed by WebMD
ATLANTA and SACRAMENTO, CA, September 15, 2000 -- EyefinitySM, a company dedicated to empowering the optical industry through the use of the Internet, and WebMD Corp. (Nasdaq: HLTH), providing connectivity and a full suite of services to the healthcare industry, today announced an agreement in which Eyefinity will use WebMD's services to expand its industry-leading electronic claims and eligibility capabilities.
The agreement will enable more than 14,000 eye care professionals using Eyefinity services to verify eligibility and submit electronic claims with a variety of major health insurance carriers via its new eClaim system.
Introduced last month for use with VSP claims only, the faster, simpler eClaim system will be expanded to handle claims for other insurance carriers starting the week of September 18 - a benefit of WebMD's extensive connectivity with payers. Plans call for Medicare and Medicaid claims to follow in the first quarter of 2001.
"We are getting an ideal partner in WebMD. By coupling WebMD's breadth with Eyefinity's industry-leading track record, eClaim will become, by far, the most expansive and convenient electronic claims service in the eye care industry," said Don Yee, Eyefinity President and CEO. "This alliance is one more example of Eyefinity delivering on its promise to connect the entire eye care community in ways that improve quality, service and convenience. We want to be the single source for the optical industry - not only for vision claims but also for a whole host of value-added eCommerce business solutions."
"Our agreement with an optical industry leader like Eyefinity will increase access and reduce processing costs on the front-end for Eyefinity's healthcare providers," said Steve Grant, chief operating officer of WebMD. "We are pleased that Eyefinity has chosen to work with us to provide eye care professionals with the latest technology to process vision transactions on the Internet."
