News > News > Welcome Back, Phernell Walker!
Eyefinity® is excited to announce that Phernell Walker has returned to our ranks, after being named Vice President of Optometric Relations. Walker brings more than 32 years of eye care experience to this new role, which will help him form connections with providers spanning all roles, including opticians, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and practice staff. He will report to Chris Enslin, president of Eyefinity.
“We saw great potential in Phernell and are thrilled to welcome him to the team,” says Enslin. “His passion for eye care and drive to shape a bright future for providers will be great assets not only for Eyefinity, but for eye care practices across the country.”
In this new chapter, Walker will create and maintain strong ties with VSP Vision™ network providers nationwide by visiting practices and connecting with eye care professionals at industry events. He'll then use this outreach to bridge the needs of providers with Eyefinity’s technology, ensuring continuous improvements in our software.
“It's amazing how much eye care has transformed over the past 32 years,” Walker said. “We can actually realize what once wasn't possible. Patient outcomes have improved because of advancements in optometric technology, and predictive analytics integrated with our Eyefinity EHR and Practice Management solutions. What an exciting time to make a difference in eye care.”
This isn’t Walker’s first time in a leadership role at VSP. He has worked with VSP for more than 15 years and was the Director of Optometric Relations for VSP Ventures. He even led the creation of Eyefinity EHR. And his achievements don’t stop there: multiple industry awards, three board positions, an adjunct professorship at Pacific University College of Optometry, and an MBA all give him a distinct place in the eye care industry. Notably, he’s one of only a few hundred people worldwide to have earned a Master’s in Ophthalmic Optics from the American Board of Opticianry.
Additionally, Walker is known for his national speaking engagements and his book, Pure Optics, which is used in optometry and opticianry schools across the country. To round out the long list of his professional achievements, Walker was also recently announced as one of five finalists for the 2023 International Optician of the Year award.
When he’s not diving into his life’s work, Walker enjoys astronomy and plays trumpet in the Big River Big Band in Portland, Oregon.
