Jon Marquart
Eyefinity
Senior Director of Technology
More than 20 years ago, Jon Marquart began his career as a software engineer. He eventually moved into leadership roles, heading up software teams in the healthcare sector. Prior to Eyefinity®, Jon led a team building software to help Walmart deliver their pharmacy products. In September 2021, he brought his years of experience to Eyefinity and now leads the team that builds our practice management solutions, including Eyefinity EncompassTM and our legacy products. At the time of writing, he oversees about 30 engineers on five different teams.
He has eagerly applied his experience in creating scalable software to the task of planning Encompass as a solution for eye care practices of all sizes.
“With scale, the margin of error has to get smaller,” he says. “If there’s a problem with one percent of transactions and you’re doing 100 transactions a day, that’s not a big deal. If you’re doing 100,000 transactions a day, it becomes a much bigger problem.”
There’s a lot coming down the pipeline that Jon is excited about—namely, new point-of-sale capabilities that will allow an updated shopping experience for patients. Even more than that, he's excited about big-picture freedom for all involved, including both users and Eyefinity developers.
“I think it’s going to deliver huge value for our customers,” he says. “It’ll allow them to focus on taking care of their customers and allow us to focus on taking care of the software. We’ll enable them to achieve their goals while we also achieve ours.”
For Jon, after all his years working in technology, the role of software has crystallized into a specific mission: to enable an experience for users, but not become the experience itself.
“We want our software to just be a natural part of how eye care providers and opticians do their daily job,” he says. “That’s probably my biggest excitement for our customers.”
