Roger Santos
Eyefinity
Sr. UX Designer
For Roger Santos, people are the name of the game. He is fascinated by why we do what we do, and though he now designs software, he originally started out in psychology as an undergrad at UC Davis. From there, he completed a graduate program in Human Factors at San Jose State University.
“I've always been interested in human behavior and what drives it," Roger says.
After college, Roger spent more than a decade in the Bay Area working for high-profile companies like Oracle and IBM before moving back to the Sacramento area and taking a job at Eyefinity. Today, he helps identify doctors' pain points when using Eyefinity software and figures out how to make the platform easier to work with. This, he says, requires building empathy with doctors by listening to their experiences, then using that feedback as fuel to push enhancements forward.
Though technology provides unique opportunities and educational potential, Roger feels that accessibility and affordability can act as barriers. He finds purpose in breaking down those barriers and making eye care a little easier for everyone. Roger is also driven by the bigger mission of helping others see—not just in a literal sense, but in everything he does: helping his team see areas for improvement, helping users see the software and, conversely, helping the software see the user.
In fact, “helping others see” was the main value that spoke to Roger when he interviewed with Eyefinity 4 years ago. Whether he’s talking with doctors or collaborating with coworkers, other people aren’t just central to Roger’s day-to-day tasks—he also considers them the best part of the job.
"I can genuinely say that the people I work with are great. They make the day so enjoyable," he says.
In his spare time, Roger enjoys photography, birdwatching, and playing golf. He lives in Davis, California with his wife, their son, and two cats.
