Beth Maza
Eyefinity
Sr. Implementation Consultant
Though she’s worn several hats during her 45 years in the optical industry, the one constant for Beth Maza has been finding joy in helping others.
Outside work, this penchant for lifting spirits shows up as homegrown bouquets from her garden, given to friends as surprises. But at Eyefinity, Beth’s mission—and main source of satisfaction—is making eye care a better place for everyone: patients, doctors, billers, opticians, front-desk staff, and anyone else who intersects with the industry.
Beth grew up in Detroit, earning a business degree from nearby Lawrence Technological University. At that time, she says, most women were limited to careers in teaching or nursing, so she followed her father’s footsteps and specialized in accounting. She took a job at DOC Optics in 1977 and has held various roles in the field ever since, from a position at Bausch and Lomb to a role at a private ophthalmology practice. She’s been a biller, contact lens distributor, customer service manager for lab orders, LASIK surgery assistant, and more.
All this has given Beth a solid understanding of what takes place on the ground in eye care. She knows the right questions to address providers' needs, whether they work for a small clinic where jobs are often shared or at a large retailer with specific employees for each role.
"I've got a very well-rounded education when it comes to optical,” she says, “from not only knowing what goes on in the clinic portion of it, but also in the back-office side from a support standpoint."
As she’s helped develop Eyefinity products—from enhancing billing systems to setting up electronic remittances—Beth has kept this experience top of mind, using it to advocate for clients and keep them smiling.
In her personal time, Beth loves to be outside digging in her garden (when Michigan’s weather cooperates). She grows heirloom peonies, many other flower varieties, and the occasional tomato plant. She has two adult children and lives in Farmington Hills with her husband of 35 years.
